DISCOVER KENYA
Kenya wildlife refers to the native animals, birds, and ecosystems found in Kenya. Sharing the same broader East African biome as Tanzania, Kenya contains over 25,000 animal species and world-renowned protected areas managed under the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and local conservancies.
The Samburu "Special Five": Northern Kenya features five distinct species adapted to arid conditions not typically grouped together elsewhere: the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx, and gerenuk (a giraffe-necked gazelle).
OUR WILDERNESS
The Maasai Mara Migration: The northern terminus of the Great Migration occurs in Kenya's Maasai Mara Reserve. Between July and October, hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebras cross the treacherous, crocodile-infested Mara River. Rhino Sanctuaries: Kenya hosts major strongholds for both black and white rhinoceroses, notably in the Laikipia Plateau (Ol Pejeta Conservancy), Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, and Lake Nakuru National Park. Famous Elephant Herds: Amboseli National Park is world-famous for its free-ranging elephant herds set against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro, while Tsavo National Park is known for its "red elephants" (colored by the red volcanic soil). Rift Valley Birdlife: Kenya’s soda lakes (Lake Nakuru, Lake Bogoria, and Lake Elmenteita) host vast congregations of lesser flamingos, contributing to a total count of over 1,100 bird species across the country.
